COM 2017 Student Poster Competition

 

The Call for Student Posters is from March 1 to August 1, 2017. Student Poster Presenters are required to preregister. The deadline to register is August 1.

Note that Student Posters abstracts do not appear in the conference guide.  Papers of the posters do not appear in the Conference proceedings.

Student Poster Competition

Schedule (subject to change)

  • Set-up Sunday, August 27, 9:00 to 16:30
  • Monday, August 28, 10:00 to 17:00– Judging at 13:00-14:00
  • Tuesday, August 29, 10:00 to 18:00 (tear down)

 

Poster Instruction for All (Subject to Change)

Student Poster Session

  • NO papers associated with poster presentations will be in the proceedings.
  • Poster size – Maximum 90 cm wide X 120 cm tall (3ft wide X 4ft tall). You will share your board with another presenter.
  • Readability – Background and font colors should be chosen to provide sufficient contrast and be easily legible from a distance of 3 ft. Font sizes less than 18 pt are not recommended.
  • Set-up – Participants are asked to set-up their poster on Sunday. Judging will take place on Monday.
  • Attendance – Presenters should be at their posters during the judging time to interact with conference delegates.
  • The author’s name, affiliations and the title of the paper along with his/her student status should be described on the top section of the poster.
  • Material for attaching the posters will be provided.
  • Consider providing small (8.5x11 inch) versions of your poster as handouts to participants to enhance networking.

Judging Criteria for Students

  • Technical content – background, procedure, analysis and discussion of results, conclusion (valid and supported).
  • Appearance – overall layout, clarity, legibility and amount of text, quality of illustrations, graphs and micrographs.
  • Oral presentation – organization, clarity, timing.

MetSoc Student Travel Funding

Financial assistance is available to support COM students enrolled at a Canadian University who travel more than 500km to the conference. Requests are pooled and a limited number of students will be selected to receive funds. Priority will be given to CIM undergraduate students at a Canadian University. Students are advised approximately one month prior to the conference and the ceiling budget for travel is $500. Any request by a student for MetSoc travel funding must include a letter of support from their current supervisor.
