  • 18:30 to 00:00 Meet at the Registration desk for students Night Out Event! (rsvp required)

Monday, August 28 (subject to change)

  • 13:00 to 14:00 Poster judging contest- (all student poster participants)
  • 17:00 to 17:30 Student Special Presentation: Emerging Professionals panel discussion
  • 17:30 to 18:30 Student Industry Mixer- Meet and mingle with Industry leaders (all students)

 

Sunday Student Fun Night (rsvp required)

Students will receive an invitation a few weeks prior to the Conference to participate in a casual night out post the Welcome reception. This will allow students to meet and have fun.

On Sunday, students will team up and try to "escape the room" at the SMARTYPANTZ - Purveyors of the finest in Escape Room Entertainment! Escape room games are backed by story and purpose.

There is logic underlying where you are, how you got there and why you're trying to escape. Afterwards, students who manage to "escape" can join together for a beer at a local pub. RSVP will be required! now have fun!

Monday Student Special Presentation- Career paths: Where will your engineering degree take you?

Members of the MetSoc Emerging Professionals (EP) program are organizing a special speaker(s) prior to the Student Mixer. A panel of professionals have been invited who have pursued a variety of career paths in the metallurgy sector to share their experience of moving from a student to where they are today. An engineering degree makes possible many different career paths. In this Emerging Professionals panel discussion, four accomplished engineers share their experiences pursuing academia, industry, consulting, and management.  Francois Audet (Foundry Solutions) and Nishit Patel (Hatch) will host.

Your Panel of speakers include:

  • Nils Voermann, Hatch (management)
  • Mary Wells, University of Waterloo (academia)
  • Boyd Davis, KPM (consulting)
  • François Audet, Foundry Solutions (entrepreneur)
  • Monday Student/Industry Mixer

    Representatives from industry and students are invited to meet informally at the mixer. Host beverages and finger foods are offered while networking among students and industry invitees is encouraged.  During this event, the Student Poster prize winners are announced as well as fun door prizes are given. Students do not require an invitation nor an rsvp for this event.  Invitations will be sent to industry leaders to r.s.v.p. to this event.  Be ready to network!
